Hi class,
I have provided some information regarding the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) program. The following link will bring you to NASA’s Commercial Space website page. This resource provides an overview of the COTS program, along with multimedia such as videos and images. Additionally, anyone can download NASA’s official COTS report that is plentiful with valuable information including the background, history, and timeline. As well as the C3PO (Commercial Crew and Cargo Program), CCDev (Commercial Crew Development) Program, CRS (Commercial Resupply Services), and the FAA/AST (Federal Aviation Administration Office of Commercial Space Transportation). Please find the attached link below.

  1. The COTS program represents a significant shift in how NASA has worked with contractors in the past. Prior to this program, NASA defined requirements and designs for space systems. With COTS, NASA is contracting for services, not specifically designed and built spacecraft. This represents a "new era" of sorts for NASA and has opened the doors for commercial companies to provide cost-effective space systems not only for the government, but commercial users as well.
